Labor Day Partnerships

“The global economy has changed the rules and the old ways simply won't work. It's going to take bold partnerships and responsible competitiveness to end the race to the bottom, so that workers can help create and share in their companies' success.”

– SEIU President
Andy Stern

New Hope for American Workers on Labor Day 2006

Building a country that works for everyone in the 21st century requires a new kind of cooperation between workers and employers. Since Labor Day a year ago, SEIU members have begun building new relationships with responsible employers in the health care and property services industries. The goal is to raise standards for workers while helping employers improve services and increase their competitive advantage. Read about new SEIU relationships with responsible employers.

SEIU is changing to be a part of the solution—at Labor Day this year, 63 percent of the American workforce is feeling like the country and the economy are on the wrong track, according to a Labor Day poll released by Change to Win. Year after year, productivity rises, but wages fall; health care costs explode while coverage erodes; and jobs get cut as pensions are dropped. See the data that show six signs of a sick economy.

Close Corporate Loopholes!

Close Corporate LoopholesDuring the recent budget crisis, the burden was placed on Missouri's families. Even after the recent special session in June, cuts to education amount to $340 million. Our legislators chose to make these cuts instead of asking corporations to pay their fair share in taxes.

We need to stand up for our families.  We need to tell our legislators to vote to close corporate tax loopholes in the upcoming veto session.  They have the power to send more funding to our schools.  Tell your legislators to close corporate tax loopholes.
